Ovid is one of the primary commercial
databases of the world, active in the field of fast distribution of information
and elimination of electronic information needs in fields of biology, health,
and medicine. Ovid is applied by libraries, researchers, physicians,
biotechnology centers, research centers, hospitals, and students of different
fields. In addition, Ovid is owned by Wolters Kluwer Health, which provides
access to the content of 1300 journals and more than 5400 books from 145
databases.
Selection of
Ovid Databases for Search
After entering
the search interface of Ovid, its main page will be observed, as shown it the
figure below. In this page, you can check the boxes of the listed databases to
select one or several databases for search. Explanations about the content of
each database can be observed by clicking the sign in front of the database
name. After selecting the desired databases, you can initiate the search. The
list of the selected databases is also shown on this page, which can be hidden
by clicking “Hide”. In addition, you can click “change” to return to the
database selection page and change your desired database. After entering the
main search page, different types of search can be found in the blue at the top
of the page.
Basic Search
The first and simplest search section in
Ovid, basic search can retrieve results in the shortest time possible. This section
includes a search box and several filters. By clicking the “include related
terms”, you can also search the words related to the entered keyword. In this
method, it is not possible to use Boolean operators. You can enter the full and
accurate title of a document in guillemets to find the exact document.
Journals
By selecting “Journals” in the blue bar at
the top of the page, you can have access to Ovid journals and receive the full
texts of your subscribed journals. Ovid enables you to review books existing in
the blue bar in Books section at the top of the page and even search inside the
books. By selecting “Multimedia” in the blue bar at the top of the page, you
will have access to multimedia sources, including videos, images, and voices.
As observed in the figure below, the search results screen, marked with a red
square, has all the features of the search page of other sources that are
already described.
